Padma Shri Yoga Practitioner Baba Sivanand Passes Away at 128 in Varanasi

The spiritual and yoga community mourns the loss of Baba Sivanand, a revered yoga practitioner and Padma Shri awardee, who passed away on Saturday night in Varanasi at the remarkable age of 128. He had been admitted to the Banaras Hindu University Hospital on April 30 due to health complications.

Life Dedicated to Yoga and Sadhana

Baba Sivanand, a resident of Kabirnagar Colony, Varanasi, was widely respected for his disciplined lifestyle, centred around yoga, meditation, and spiritual practice. His dedication to promoting yoga and serving society earned him the Padma Shri award in 2022, one of India’s highest civilian honours.

Paying Last Respects

His body has been kept at his home for devotees and residents to pay their last respects. The final rites are scheduled to be performed later today.

Condolences from Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief, stating:

“It is extremely saddening to hear about the demise of Shivanand Baba Ji, a yoga practitioner and resident of Kashi. His life dedicated to yoga and sadhana will continue to inspire every generation of the country.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also condoled the passing, highlighting Baba Sivanand’s contribution to society through spiritual practice.
