Unnao Rape Case: Activists Protest Outside Delhi High Court

New Delhi | December 26, 2025

Scores of protesters, including women’s rights activists and the mother of the Unnao rape survivor, staged a demonstration outside the Delhi High Court on Friday, opposing the suspension of the jail sentence awarded to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

The protest was led by members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and supported by prominent activist Yogita Bhayana. Demonstrators held placards and raised slogans demanding justice for the survivor and accountability within the justice system.

Chanting slogans such as “Balatkariyo ko sanrakshan dena band karo” (stop protecting rapists), the protesters expressed deep concern over what they described as a troubling signal to survivors of sexual violence. They argued that suspending the sentence of a convicted individual undermines public trust in the legal process and discourages victims from coming forward.

Kuldeep Sengar, a former legislator from Uttar Pradesh, was convicted in the high-profile Unnao rape case that drew nationwide attention and sparked debates on political influence, survivor protection, and judicial accountability. The recent decision to suspend his sentence has reignited public outrage and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of laws related to sexual crimes.

Activists at the protest emphasized that justice must not only be delivered but must also be seen to be delivered. They urged authorities to prioritize survivor-centric justice and ensure that political power does not interfere with the rule of law.

The demonstration concluded peacefully, with organizers reiterating their commitment to continue advocacy until justice is fully upheld in the Unnao rape case.
