Security Tightened in Kokrajhar as Army Conducts Patrols, Flag March Today

Army Deployed in Sensitive Areas of Violence-Hit Kokrajhar, Assam

The Indian Army has been deployed in sensitive pockets of Assam’s Kokrajhar district following incidents of mob violence that left two people dead and triggered arson and clashes, officials confirmed on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

According to official sources, the violence allegedly erupted between members of the Bodo and Adivasi communities, prompting swift security intervention to prevent further escalation and restore public order.

Army personnel, in coordination with the district administration, conducted night-long patrols on Tuesday in the affected areas of Karigaon and nearby localities. A defence spokesperson stated that these joint patrols are part of enhanced security measures aimed at stabilising the situation and reassuring residents.

As part of confidence-building efforts, the Army is also scheduled to carry out a flag march in the region on Wednesday. Authorities believe this visible security presence will help deter further violence and instil a sense of safety among the local population.

The district administration continues to monitor the situation closely, while additional security forces remain on standby. Officials have appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as normalcy is gradually restored.
